It gave me two stars (eyes), that when I open them I perfectly distinguish the black from the white And in the depths of the starry high heavens And in the multitudes of the man that I love Thank you to life, which has given me so much It has given me my ear, that with all of its width Records night and day, crickets and canaries Hammers, turbines, barks, showers And the ever-tender voice of my beloved Thank you to life, which has given me so much It has given me sound and the alphabet With it the words that I think and declare Mother, friend, brother, and illuminated light The route to the soul of the one I love Thank you to life, which has given me so much It has given me the march of my tired feet With which I walked cities and puddles Beaches and deserts, mountains and plains And your house, your street and your patio Thank you to life, which has given me so much It gave me the heart that shakes its frame When I see the fruit of the human mind When I look at the goodness so far from the bad When I look into the depths of your clear eyes Thank you to life, which has given me so much It has given me laughter and it has given weeping This way I distinguish joy from grief The two materials that form my singing And the singing of all of you that is my same singing And the singing of everyone that is my own singing Thank you to life which has given me so much

The Facts 05:40
See what you want to see Hear what you want to hear Read what you want to read Be who you want to be The facts are non-negotiable Share all you want to share Nothing's too small to care Big thoughts are not so big Say what you want to say The facts are undeniable

Blood on grain, Red and yellow. Fountain of poison. Wounded shields. 5 centuries unchanged. Liberty with no gallop. Battered, torn flags. Pride and lies. Gold and silver medals Against hope. 5 centuries unchanged. On this part of the earth, History fell As stones fall, Yet some touch the heavens Or are close to the sun. Or are close to the sun. Unlove, Unfound. Forgive and forget. Body with mineral. Hard working towns. Infancies empoverished. 5 centuries unchanged. Loyalty over tombs. Sacred stones. God had no chance to cry. A long nightmare. Children of no one. Five centuries unchanged. Death against life. The glory of a people Disappeared. It's beginning, it's ending. Legend lost. Five centuries unchanged. On this part of the earth. History fell As stones fall, Yet some touch the heavens Or are close to the sun. Or are close to the sun. It's flowers at dusk. Revolutions And though many are no longer with us Never did anyone think To kiss your feet. Five centuries unchanged. (English translation by Joel Cruz)

about

New Songs of Resistance: On his fifth album as a leader and his debut for Nick Finzer's Outside in Music label, virtuoso pianist, composer, and arranger Jason Yeager reimagines Latin American folksongs from the nueva canción (“new song”) tradition and presents original compositions inspired by that tradition and our contemporary cultural and political landscape. Featuring a star-studded chamber-latin jazz ensemble that includes musicians from seven countries--including Argentine bassist Fernando Huergo (of Guillermo Klein’s Guachos); Grammy-winning drummer Mark Walker (Paquito D’Rivera, Oregon); vocalists Erini, Farayi Malek, and Mirella Costa; and cellist Naseem Alatrash, among others--New Songs of Resistance is a powerful statement from a young artist whose vision, creativity, and drive to make affecting, beautiful music are seemingly boundless.
